The Fountys

Art History Awards Show

Three guests dressed as famous artworks holding gold Founty trophies

The Challenge

Space One Eleven is a visual arts gallery and non-profit that needed a creative fundraising event to match the tone of the organization.

The Project

I produced, wrote, and emceed an art history awards show featuring some of the city's most beloved artists. Each local artist was cast as an iconic figure from art history, and presented or accepted an award in character. Winners of each category were determined by an online vote.

Inspired by Marcel Duchamp's infamous 1917 masterpiece "Fountain" (the urinal), small golden ceramic replicas ("Fountys") were presented to the winners in 12 categories.

Winners included:

  • Most Whimsical Representation of the Human Body: Pablo Picasso
  • Most Posthumous Success: Vincent Van Gogh
  • Best Selfie: Frida Kahlo
  • Artists dressed as Dalí, Frida Kahlo, and Van Gogh posing with a Founty
  • A guest in costume posing with a red rotary phone
  • Artists in Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo costumes at the microphone
